How safe is Brighton MI?
I am going to start with discussing crime in Metro Detroit. As most of you know or assume major urban cities usually have the highest crime rates no matter what city you are in. Whether it is Miami in Florida, Chicago in Illinois, or Phoenix in Arizona crime rates are higher in big urban cities. Partly because there are always pockets of people living below the poverty line. Metro Detroit is no different. The city of Detroit has higher crime rates as you know from the national news. So not only does Detroit have a high crime rate, but there are a few other cities have high crime rates to in the metro Detroit area. The other cities that have high crime rates are Highland Park, Ecorse, River Rouge, Inkster, and Pontiac. These are cities you need to know that they have high crime rates. Usually the ring of cities around Detroit have a little higher crime rates because of what I call spillover crime. The criminals will sometimes hit targets of opportunity outside of where they live and get back home quick.
If you think of crime in Metro Detroit that way....you will understand that usually the further away you get from Detroit, Pontiac, or Flint the lower the rate of crime. Brighton Mi is a farther out border suburb of Detroit. People used to move to Brighton to get away from the high density of homes. They moved to Brighton because homes were more spread out. More room between the houses. That's why some home buyers chose to live in Brighton. Brighton is 45 minutes to an hour away from Detroit.
You do not get spillover crime from Detroit. The criminal element will not drive 45 minutes when there is opportunity in cities closer the high crime area. Brighton is a safe community for you and your family.
Violent crime is almost non existent in Brighton. In 2019 there was a murder but before that Brighton had no murders since before 2006. The likelyhood of you getting murder is nil. It is most likely that somebody you know would hurt you versus a random criminal shooting you. There are no drive by shootings in Brighton. It is not that type of town.

There is some crime, but it doesn't impact me much. 67% of the residents say the police are very visible and very responsive. According to research of Michigan and other state lists, there were 88 registered sex offenders living in Brighton, Michigan as of December 16, 2021.

With the low crime in Brighton, good schools and easy highway access home buyers like Brighton. It is only 17 miles to Ann Arbor, about 43 minutes to Lansing. For people that work in two different directions Brighton is a great halfway point.
