How safe is Farmington Hills Michigan? 

I will start with the statement that Farmington Hills is a safe community to live, work, and play.  Sometimes the City of Farmington and the City of Farmington Hills are confused as one community.  They are two separate communities but many people still refer to them as one and the same.  In terms of how safe they are they are very similar.  The city of Farmington is very small (about 2 square mile in size) where as Farmington Hills is much large, many more people, and parts of Farmington Hills vary in crime rates.

Farmington Hills has many accolades over the years because it is such a good city.  Farmington Hills consistently ranks as one of the safest cities in the United States, as well as in the state of Michigan. The area ranked as the 30th safest city in the U.S in 2010 and as the 2nd safest city in Michigan in 2020.  Farmington Hills also ranks as the 36th highest-income place in the United States with a population of 50,000 or more and ranked as 14th America's best cities to live by 24/7 Wall St. in 2016.

When you look at the crime statistics below you will notice that the city has no murders in the last year.  Like so many of metro Detroits suburbs murder is very rare in the city.  Farmington Hills has what I call random crime.

Random crime means that family disputes, vandalism from kids, small fights, small store theft is what you will encounter in the city.  Armed robberies are very rare.  You will not find criminal gangs terrorizing the neighborhoods, and businesses here in Farmington Hills.  You do not have every day car jackings, murders, rapes, or muggings in the city.  It is not that type of city.  It is a safe city for you and your family to live in.
