If you do not know Royal Oak real estate is usually in high demand because it is a young person's town. It has a good sized very active downtown that is suited for the 20 - 35 year old age group.
Young people around metro Detroit want to live in Royal Oak if their job is near there. Of course the homes that are closest to downtown are in high demand because home buyers like the idea of being able to walk into the downtown area. Royal Oak is a good sized community being several mile long and wide.
So what is real estate in Royal Oak Michigan like. There are several high rise condo complex that are from 4 to 8+ stories tall right in the downtown area. There are also several Brownstown style condo complexes within walking distance too. Of course like most cities there are older apartment complexes that have been converted into condos. Most of these condos are from 800 square feet to about 1500 square feet.

I would call Royal Oak a bedroom community in that majority of the homes are under 1500 square feet. There are many ranch and bungalow style homes here. There are the old Detroit style square boxy wood frame homes. The type of home that has a kitchen, dining room, living room, and a half bath on the main floor and a porch that spans across the front of the house. Many of the homes have screened in those porches or enclosed them totally. Now instead of wood they may be aluminum or vinyl.

Royal Oak real estate is on orderly streets with mature trees. The city is an older community with some homes being built in the 1920's. You will find that most of the homes were built before the 1970's. There are brick ranches, split levels, and colonials, but like I said the majority of the homes are the three types
There are no mega mansions here. Most of the homes are smaller though there are a couple of sections in the city where the homes and lots are larger. You can find some homes that are over 2000 square feet. Of course throughout the city you will find homes that have been added onto. Bungalows that have been converted into colonials, bungalows that have family rooms added on, and ranch homes that have had a second floor added on.

Royal Oak real estate is going to be pricier than homes in Berkley, Clawson, or Madison heights simply because it is the hot spot for the younger generation. Years ago I would have called it the Yuppie area, now it is the millenial city. So if you are relocating to Metro Detroit and you work is downtown or on the east side then you may want to check out homes, condos, or real estate in Royal Oak.
