There are about 17 major malls in South east Michigan.  Many of the major malls have multiple strip malls surrounding them making them major shopping areas.  Detroit area residents can usually find pharmacies, restaurants, gas stations, and many different stores within a mile or two of their homes.  Shopping, groceries stores that you are used to are here in SE Michigan.    

You may have a little anxiety about moving here.  It is a natural reaction.  Nervousness about moving to Southeastern Michigan is normal.  So let me tell you a little bit about metro Detroit and SE Michigan.  It is a great place to live.  I would say that over 90% of the cities in metro Detroit are very safe.  Communities where you can walk down the street with your kids and family and not worry about gangs, muggings, or getting shot.  I would call the crime that occurs "random crime".  By that I mean kids maybe stealing from unlocked cars, or doing a little vandalism.  Or maybe a domestic dispute that ends up in assualt or death.  That is what I mean by random crime.  You won't find gang bangers or drug dealers terrorizing the neighbor.

One of the best parts of Metro Detroit and moving to the suburbs of Detroit is that we have all the conveniences, shopping, and stores that you want.  Here are the major shopping malls in Metro Detroit.  This list is courtesy of VisitDetroit..com  These big malls will have all the major stores that are known across the country.  You will the stores that you are used to.  Many times these malls have lots of strip malls around them that have even more stores around them including Kohls, Best Buy, and Office Depot to name a few.

Whether you are relocating to Rochester or relocating to Dearborn you will like all the stores in Metro Detroit.

1. Fairlane Town Center

Home to more than 125 stores and restaurants, Fairlane Town Center is conveniently located near major expressways, Detroit Metropolitan Airport and the U.S.-Canadian border crossing. You’ll find everything from the classic Macy’s store to Michigan’s largest H&M and more.

2. Lakeside Mall
This two-level enclosed mall spans 1.5 million-sq.-ft. and has nearly 180 stores, including anchors Macy’s, JCPenney, Lord & Taylor and Sears.

Stretch your dollars at Michigan’s largest indoor outlet mall, which has more than 30 shops you won’t find anywhere else in the state. 4. The Mall at Partridge Creek

This open-air mall is home to nearly 90 stores and restaurants and offers unique amenities, such as free Wi-Fi, pop jet fountains, a TV court and a 30-foot fireplace. It even welcomes dogs!

5. Somerset Collection

Somerset offers the most exclusive shopping in Michigan, with an exceptional collection of 180 upscale, luxury stores and restaurants. There’s even a Tesla gallery inside Nordstrom!

With nearly 200 stores, services and restaurants, you’re sure to find what you want — and more — at Twelve Oaks Mall, which is easily accessible from I-96 and Novi Road and just a short drive from the Suburban Collection Showplace.

 

7. The Village of Rochester Hills

Set up much like a bustling downtown, the Village of Rochester Hills is a 375,000-sq.-ft. outdoor shopping district in the heart of Rochester Hills. Whimsical inlaid plaques, a beautiful fountain, a quaint gazebo and a distinctive clock tower all add to its charm.

Here is a list of Downtown Districts

These downtown districts may have a few nationwide known coffee shops or restaurants stores, but most of the downtown districts are going to be mom and pop stores and boutiques.  It is the same way with the restaurants and bars.  They are either local chains or mom and pop places.  Each of these downtown districts have a unique character.

8. Birmingham Principal Shopping District

Birmingham’s lively, pedestrian-friendly downtown offers a diverse assortment of fashion boutiques, restaurants, gift stores, jewelers, salons, spas, antique shops and art galleries. And don’t worry about parking. There’s a valet service (located near the northeast corner of Old Woodward and Maple) that will take care of it for you!

Centered on the iconic intersection of 9 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, the shopping district is easily accessible by foot, bike or vehicle. Throughout the year, it’s also the venue for a myriad of events, including a wintertime blues festival, Ferndale Pride and a fall doggie event.

10. Midtown Detroit

Located just north of downtown, Midtown boasts unique art galleries, quirky independent retail shops and some of the best cuisine you’ll find in The D.

11. Downtown Northville
Downtown Northville blends historic architecture with current trends in clothing, gifts and home accessory shops — all in a walkable downtown atmosphere.

12. Downtown Plymouth

Historic downtown Plymouth features unique shops and more than 20 restaurants, sweets shops, coffee shops and bars surrounding the quaint Kellogg Park town square.

13. Downtown Rochester

A perfect mix of historic and hip, downtown Rochester is home to more than 350 shops, salons, restaurants and professional service businesses — 85 percent of which are independent merchants!

Shopping in Royal Oak MI

14. Downtown Royal Oak
Pick up alternative and vintage threads, scour for antiques and collectibles, or find something for your home at downtown Royal Oak’s more than 90 boutiques, salons and retail shops.

There actually is a few more that I would add to the downtown districts.  I would add Downtown Farmington, Downtown Milford, Downtown Brighton, and Downtown Dearborn.  These are all great little areas.
