What is Clarkston MI really like?

Clarkston MIClarkston MI lies along the I -75 corridor.  It is a relatively small community at 333 acres in size. Anybody that has lived in Detroit knows Clarkston because of Pine Knob now called DTE music theater.  Most everybody in Metro Detroit at one time or another has gone to a concert or snow skied at Pine Knob.  It was and still is a very popular venue for concerts.

In parts of Springfield Township and Independence Township residents say they live in Clarkston.  That happens fairly frequently in South East Michigan where people use a well known neighboring city and call it their own.  Some have Clarkston mailing. Let's talk about the city is really like.

Clarkston is a safe community.  It has easy access to on ramps to I-75 has drawn home buyers to the Clarkston area for decades.  Even in the 1970's and 1980's the Clarkston area was being built up.  The City of the Village of Clarkston was establish in 1832 and features historic charm in the heart of Oakland County. This one-half square mile community is surrounded by Independence Township, home to approximately 900 people and within close proximity of I-75 and Dixie Highway.

I usually talk about the downtown areas first when I describe the different communities around Detroit.  Clarkston's city center is small.  There are a couple blocks of restaurants, offices, and a few stores.  People mainly come to the downtown area for the restaurants.   Clarkston is not a go to downtown area like Rochester's downtown, or Milford's downtown, or Plymouth Mi's downtown area.  These three downtown areas are bigger and more lively.  It's a nice downtown but not huge.  There is also another area in Clarkston along Sashabaw Road at I-75 that has become more developed.  This area was bound to grow with DTE Music Theater (formerly known as Pine Knob) right down the street.

Clarkston’s downtown, which has been designated a National Historical Site, features a picturesque main street lined with unique shops, eateries and businesses. Throughout the year Clarkston is host to several events including concerts in Depot Park, parades, festivals, and an art fair. The historic homes around the downtown area reflect Clarkston’s heritage, giving the community an air of timeless elegance.

Clarkston MIEven though people say Clarkston all three communities are distinctly different government bodies.  The 36-square-mile area of Independence Township surrounding the quaint village of Clarkston offers the beauty of country living with the conveniences of a modern city. With Depot Park and Deer Lake Beach within its limits, and a county park (Independence Oaks) nearby, Clarkston offers families ample leisure time activities.  Some 45 miles Northwest of Detroit. Situated in a rural atmosphere, the community is surrounded by thousands of acres of rolling hills, lakes, woodlands, farms, and quiet country roads and marshes.

Like I said the Clarkston area has drawn home buyers for decades.  It's homey atmosphere, high demographics. good schools, and beautiful newer homes on bigger lots was a draw for metro Detroiters looking to get away from the city.  Clarkston homes had space and privacy.
