Here is some history if you are relocating to Auburn Hills, The city began as Pontiac Township, which included the village of Auburn, in 1821, which is the corner of Auburn and Squirrel roads today. Situated on the Clinton River, it was named by Aaron Webster, the first settler, for Auburn, New York. Like so many early Michigan settlers they came from New York. Most of the early settlers found places to live along the rivers in South Eastern Michigan. His sawmill and grist mill attracted settlers to Auburn because they did not have to travel to get their crops turned into flour and to buy lumber.
After the streets were laid out in 1826, Auburn settled down nearby Pontiac until the 1860s. The town was renamed Amy in 1880, and it officially became Auburn Heights in 1919. Pontiac Township bordered the city of Pontiac on two sides. The township attempted to incorporate as Pontiac Heights in 1971, but the request was denied by several state officials. Pontiac Township became township in 1978. In 1908, automobile pioneer John Dodge bought a farmhouse 3 miles north of Auburn Heights to use as his country retreat. His oldest child, Winifred Dodge, married a real estate baron, Wesson Seyburn, who built his own country retreat 2.5 miles north of Auburn Heights. The estate included hunting land, dog kennels, a swimming pool, horse stables, and a 5,000-square-foot house. Pontiac Township purchased the estate in 1976, and used the buildings for government use. Today, it is known as the Auburn Hills Civic Center.

A strong Police and Fire department with good response times help keep the cities residents safe. Through collaborative problem solving strategy with the community and aggressive pursuit of law violators, the Auburn Hills Police Department tries to keep our community safe and secure. They respond to concerns and seek long-term solutions to neighborhood problems and challenges. The staff, both sworn and non-sworn, are well trained, well equipped and committed to serving their community. It is a large police force and fire department with the latest equipment to protect the residents from whatever may come up. Every day of the year, the 53 sworn officers are always ready and prepared to respond quickly to emergencies throughout the City. Last year they received 21,949 9-1-1 emergency calls and of those they responded to over 20,600 calls for service. As a result of the excellent work done by the employees and through collaboration with citizens and community groups, they had an exceptional crime clearance rate in many categories last year.
