So if you are thinking of moving to Clarkston Michigan you are going to be like most of my Michigan relocation buyers.  You want to know about the schools, the crime, and whether the community is a place that you will feel comfortable living in.  A place that all the things you are used to are nearby.  Clarkston is a small community that is growing.  It is located in the northern section of the Detroit suburbs with easy access to I-75.  I call it along the I-75 corridor that makes it easy to get to Rochester, Troy, Auburn Hills, and Birmingham.  Living in Clarkston I-75 offers a direct route to downtown Detroit and Flint. Telegraph Road /US 24 begins nearby in Independence Township as a north-south highway and runs all the way through metro Detroit to Toledo.

Is Clarkston MI safe?

                                                         Historic District of Clarkston

In 1980, Clarkston was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic District on based on its architectural and historical significance. Clarkston has a small downtown area, not as large as Rochester, Milford, Royal Oak, or Birmingham.  I would say Clarkston is spread out more along Dixie Highway.  You will find many restaurants and business there.  The city and downtown area  has many important examples of Queen Anne style homes. Residents in 1980 came together and submitted the appropriate paperwork to the National Park Service to list Clarkston as a historic district primarily to prevent Main Street from widening and wiping out character-defining buildings as well as Clarkston's history.  If you would like a Clarkston relocation guide email me at yesmyrealtor@gmail.com

As big concern to many of my Metro Detroit relocation clients is schools.  You will be glad to know it is a good school district which prepares your child well for their future.  The majority of students go onto college.  The city's public school district is the Clarkston Community School District.

What is Clarkston MI like?

So when you talk about Clarkston you also talk about the surrounding area.  Clarkston homes around the downtown area are going to be older, but there are also some newer built homes there.  You will find ranch homes, Victorians, Queen Anne Style homes, colonials, and split level homes.  The median home value in Clarkston is $235,300 as of 2013 . Clarkston home values have gone up 9.3% over the past year and Zillow predicts they will rise 2.2% in 2015.

   Real Estate in Clarkston

If you have a Clarkston relocation that is good news.  I know many relocation buyers move again in a few years.  So you want a home and a community that will appreciate.  Clarkston Michigan is one of those towns that your home should appreciate.

As you get further away from the downtown area you will find some subdivisions with larger newer homes.  You will find homes that sit on larger lots and acreage.  There is a wide variety of homes to suite any home buyers wants and needs.  The median list price per square foot in Clarkston is $135, which is higher than the Detroit Metro average of $103. The median price of homes currently listed in Clarkston is $326,900 while the median price of homes that sold is $218,750. I would say that Clarkston is one of those communities that many home buyers would want to live in if they could afford it.  What I mean by that is the real estate values are strong.  It is not a run down community, or a community that will have bargain basement home prices.  I would call it one of Metro Detroit's stronger, more desirable communities.

The charm of the downtown gives off a nostalgia and picturesque setting that everyone enjoys. With numerous homes on the historical register, the City of the Village of Clarkston is a up beat small town surrounded by a growing rural and suburban area. The houses and stores have been there since eighty or a hundred years ago were home and business to the families of the people on the lake will take you back a step in time.  Yes if you did not know Clarkston is still in the lakes area of Oakland County.  You will find that Deer Lake, Dixie Lake, Softwater Lake, and Susin Lake are all close by.  So you can live on a lake and still be close to a freeway.  What more could you want...lake living with city conveniences.

Residents are quick to tell you of the virtues of the community and seem to be at ease in welcoming newcomers. Dining and shopping, together with the Village and Township government sustain the economic base of the community.

  Downtown Clarkston

City of the Village of Clarkston or Clarkston is a just a small city located in Oakland County.  I would call it one of the smaller cities in Oakland County.  Many people make the drive to Clarkston for some of the great restaurant there. The city is approximately one half square mile and is completely surrounded by Independence Charter Township. The population is 882.
