Detroit's border communities
I am going to talk about Detroit's border communities. These cities are what I call the cities that have so-so schools, lower crime rates than Detroit, but higher than most of Metro Detroits suburbs. Would I consider them ideal relocation cities? NO. I believe we have so many great cities in the suburbs is that I would only chose these cities if I could not afford to move to some of the other cities in the area. Are they horrible cities....absolutely not. Would I have clients buy homes in these communities. Yes if they wanted to live there. That is what is real estate is all about. What may be a undesirable community for some may be ideal to others because it is where their family is, where they feel at home. I have sold homes to clients that live in these cities. They are perfectly happy there. That is what makes a city. That is what makes everybody preferences different. Different people have different needs and wants.
I have worked with so many relocation buyers that I have learned what they are looking for and what cities they have not asked to live in. These border cities are not going to be on there list to move to.

Unfortunately these cities have school systems where the students are not scoring high on the State MEAP tests. Are there worst school systems in the state absolutely.
How are the crime rates in these cities? Insurance rates for your car and home will be higher in these cities than other cities in metro Detroit. Crime rates are a little higher. There is higher rates of robberies, car thefts, and violent crimes than many other cities in Detroit.
Oak Park has 162 violent crimes and 704 property crimes annually. It is safer than 26% of the cities in the US.
River Rouge has 45 violent crimes and 355 property crimes annually. It is safer than 8% of the cities in the US.
Hazel Park has 86 violent crims and 494 property crimes annually. Hazel Park is safer than 19% of the cities in the US.
