Farmington Hills Relocation

Did you get hired by a company in Detroit or Oakland County?  A Farmington Hills relocation may be in your future.  Farmington Hills MI is the second largest city in Oakland County.  Depending on who you talk to you may here the city of Farmington and Farmington Hills referred to as one community.  They are separate communities but sometimes locals refer to them as Farmington Hills.  The population is about 79,740 according to the last census.   Farmington Hills is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities located in the United States.  There is very little crime in the city.

Farmington Hills is at the southern edge of Oakland County, one of the wealthiest counties in the U.S.  It is about 33 miles northeast of Ann Arbor, Michigan and about a 30 minute ride to downtown Detroit.  Southfield is not too far away either if you land a job there.  In Farmington you'll find a hometown quality of life and the City of Farmington (it's sister city) has a central downtown.  Farmington Hills is located in a major automotive region and Automation Alley.  There are no major manufacturing companies but there are several research parks in the city and office complexes along 12 Mile Road.  Farmington Hills is home to a many manufacturing research, engineering and design companies. Companies from all over the world have chosen Farmington Hills as the place to do business in numerous office complexes and research parks totaling over 600 acres and occupying over 4.5 million square feet of office space.  Here are some of the national corporations that are located in the city: Robert Bosch Corporation, Allstate Insurance, Alcoa, Nissan, Gale, Daimler Chrysler, Singular Wireless, Motorola and many others.

So what can you expect for homes in Farmington Hills MI? It is not a bungalow or what I would call a starter home community.  Though today I have first time home buyers buying $300,000 & $400,000 homes so I guess it could be a starter home community.  You will find all sizes and style homes.  You will even find a few estate homes on some larger parcels here in the city.  I would call the city a middle class to upper middle class community.   

The median Prices for a regular housing unit is $215,473, Detached Houses; $228,908, Town homes; $158,872, 2-unit Structures; $168,191, and Mobile Homes; $75,234. Farmington Hills itself has 10,423 people within the city limits, with a median income of $75,578 and median home value of $173,900. There is no better place to live and no better value. The average price per square foot in Farmington Hills was $101, but has increased by 9.8% in the past calendar year.

So if you relocate to Farmington Hills Michigan what is there to do.  Most of Metro Detroit's major sports arenas are about 30 miles away.  The city is home to the Holocaust Memorial Center which is a great museum to visit.   Heritage Park includes hiking trails which are used for cross-country skiing during the winter time. Founders Sports Park is very popular for a variety of outdoor activities. Woodland Hills is a scenic walking trail and also provides great opportunities to watch birds and a variety of animals in different settings. 


The majority of Farmington Hills residents go to the Farmington Public Schools.   The renowned Farmington Public School system enrolls more than 12,000 students and consists of 14 elementary schools, four middle schools and three high schools.  There are quite a few private schools in the city too.   Farmington Public Schools are known for their excellent football teams, high GPA's and the large parental involvement.  The students consistently have high test scores on the MEAP, SAT and ACT’s.   Would I send my children to Farmington Hills schools?  Absolutely they are a good school system.   If you would like a Farmington Hills relocation guide email me at  


So how is it for commuting?  By Living in Farmington Hills, you can jump on I-275 and I-696 very easily.  After all you want to be able to get to work easily.  Here is the average commute time to some places that are important to know the travel time, Detroit Airport (30 minutes), Ann Arbor (33 minutes), Detroit (27 minutes), Botsford Hospital (11 minutes), Wayne State University (26 minutes) and Michigan State University (65 minutes). Whether you want to get to the east side or downtown Detroit you can get their very easily on Metro Detroit's highways.
