If you have a Livingston County relocation you may be considering the area because it is at a cross roads of expressways. To the west of the county is our state capital Lansing, to the north is Flint, to the south is Ann Arbor, and to the east is Metro Detroit and the City of Detroit.
There are two reasons many people like relocating to Livingston County.
1.) Rural or semi rural living
2.) When spouses work in opposite directions
If you have a Livingston County relocation you may want to visit the area because it is semi-rural. You will find small communities. Many areas of the county will not have huge shopping areas or lots of restaurants to go to. You will find more mom and pop stores, and family run restaurants than a chain restaurant. You will find two lane roads that wind around lakes and come to a T in the middle of now where. It is typical of a semi-rural area. What is nice is that you do have all the modern conveniences within a half hour drive of your home.
Brighton in Livingston County is probably the biggest and most developed in the community. It lies off I-96 and a little west of 23 which makes it easy to get around Southeastern Michigan. You will find that Brighton was a quaint little downtown at one point and has now grown into a good sized city with many national stores along Grand River. There are some chain restaurants but I will say that Brighton still has a majority of family owned restaurants which residents from all over the county flock too. Brighton has a great fall festival call rib......................................
When relocating to Livingston County Michigan you might be surprised to learn that the area is full of lakes. Lakes like Woodland Lake in Brighton, or Long Lake in Hartland are very desirable to lake home buyers. However the Portage Chain of Lakes in the Hamburg area is probably the most attractive lake area to home buyers. The ability to go from lake to lake is a lot of fun. The Chain of Lakes is one of the few lake chains in Southeastern Michigan. There is no lack of scenery and fishing spots on the chain of lakes. The country and the seclusion is why many Livingston County relocation buyers choose the area. If you are looking for a small farm or a home with acreage then you will be able to find it here. I have seen areas where I thought I was up north. Homes that sat back a mile off the roads, or homes that sat in acres of woodlands. No neighbors houses could be seen. Some relocation home buyers like that versus the look alike subdivision home. Of course you can find some log cabins, lots of Livingston County lake front homes, big new colonials, and small ranches. Whatever type of home you are looking for you will be able to find it here.
You will find fields of corn, soybeans, and wheat throughout the county. You will find small country stores along the roads. Lakes and forests are all over if you are a hunter or fishermen. If you do not know Michigan has so many state, county, and city recreational lands. The Huron River runs through the county and is great for kayaking, and canoing. Pinckney State recreation area has hundreds and hundreds of acres for you hiking, mountain biking, and cross Country skiing pleasure. Mt Brighton is a ski hill if you are a snow skier. No it is not like a Colorado Mountain but it is a great place in the winter. So if you are moving to Livingston County you will not be lacking for recreation areas to do what you are used to doing.
So what are the more "developed" communities in Livingston County? They are:
When I say more developed I mean that they will have more stores, more restaurants, and usually easy highway access. When I say Brighton I mean Brighton and Brighton Township. When you say Howell many people will include Oceola Township.
You will find that crime in Livingston County is minimal. I know some clients that leave their homes unlocked. Yes you will have what I call random crime, but the threat of murder, rape, muggings from a stranger is about non existent. You will probably find much of the crime would be from family or domestic issues.
So the benefits of moving to Livingston County in Southeastern Michigan is the good schools, the semi rural or country way of life, and the larger lots. It is a great area and a great place to live.
