Macomb County Relocation

If you are relocating to Macomb County MI you will be considered an east sider.  Macomb is one of Michigan's smaller counties.  The eastern edge of Macomb County is on Lake St. Clair which is a mecca for boaters.  Here in Metro Detroit we have many inland lakes within an hour of downtown Detroit but it is something about the "Big Water"  that people love.  You will find lots of Marinas to dock your boat all along Macomb County's coastline.  This is probably the biggest difference you will find between the other counties.  So if you want to buy a 24' to 50' boat to go out on the lake then Macomb County may be the place to relocate to.  You will find sailing clubs, races, and all sorts of events on the lake to participate in.  There are areas on Lake St. Clair that people just pull up to and party.

Here is a link to malls and shopping in Macomb County.

Macomb County is not as affluent as Oakland County.  You will not find exclusive affluent cities like Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Hills, or Birmingham here.  Macomb County homes and residents are going to be more middle class and upper Middle class.  Most of the home prices in the county in 2014 are going to run between $50,000 and $400,000.  It is full of towns that are both old and new.  Like most of Metro Detroit Macomb is growing north.  You will find many new construction homes and newer homes built in the last ten to fifteen years in the northern suburbs.   If you would like a Macomb County relocation guide email me at

It is ranks third in population in the state of Michigan with about 840,000 residents at last count.
There are 27 municipalities in the county.  Three of the ten largest communities in Michigan are here; Warren is 3rd, Sterling Heights is 6th, and Clinton Township.

When relocating to the county it is all about the city.  You may be moving back to get close to family.  So your relocation and home choices are going to depend on which cities you are looking in.  I could say that Warren is more of a starter home community with small ranches and bungalows as the main types of homes.  Clinton Township and Macomb Township will be where you will find larger newer colonials and ranches.  Mt. Clemens has an old downtown area and has some beautiful large old Victorian homes.  As for lake front homes you are going to see them on canals and the lake in St. Clair Shores and Harrison Township.

You will find that some of the southern most cities that are close to Detroit have higher crime rates and mediocre schools.  Detroit's problems have over flowed into those cities.  So if you are like many of my relocation clients you are probably going to be picking cities that are at least in the 2nd row of cities away from the City of Detroit.

Macomb County cities will have a mixture of large industrial factories to small industries. Manufacturing is Macomb County's   leading industry, employing roughly one-third of the workforce that live in the city.  Macomb County really does not have a business center area like Oakland County does.  Southfield, Troy, and Auburn Hills are Oakland Counties business centers.  Most of the businesses that moved out of Detroit moved out to Oakland County.  Macomb does not have that.  If you are relocating to Macomb County it is probably because you have been hired in at one of these companies.  There are so many great places to live here.

It is a financially strong community with the heavy manufacturing base.  Macomb County has the highest   possible credit rating from Moody's (AAA) and Standard & Poor's (AAA) making   it one of only 34 counties in the entire nation to achieve this status.  So what else can I tell you about the county.  It has 8 community hospitals scattered around the county.

It has three of the major express ways that connect metro Detroiters together.   I-94 and I-696 cut through the county.  One running east to west and the other running north to south.  I- 75 is just to the west of the county.  There are many main roads that run down to downtown Detroit or across the metro area from in the county.  So even if there is an accident or the highways are torn up there are many main roads to get around on.  Another east west main road is M-59.  I would call that one of the shopping districts in the county.  There are so many stores and restaurants along M-59 it will satisfy any shopaholic.  Along most of the major roads like Gratiot, Van Dyke, and Dequindre you will find many other strip malls and stores to shop at.

Every city is a little different and will offer you and your family many opportunities.  Some have excellent schools and some will be just so-so.  The majority of them are very safe with the exception of some of the ones that are closest to Detroit.  The closer you are to Detroit the more likely the crime rate will be higher.  You will find thousands of acres of parks to enjoy in the county and the Clinton River flows through too.

So if your company is in Macomb County you will be able to find a strong safe community with homes that will appreciate over time.  Communities that are probably just like some that you are used to.  So if you are relocating to Macomb County feel free to give us a call.  My team of Michigan relocation specialists will be glad to help you.  My cell is (248) 310-6239.
