Metro Detroit Relocation
What is Metro Detroit really like if you have a Metro Detroit relocation? I have lived in the area almost my whole life. I grew up in Allen Park which is considered part of the Downriver area south of the City of Detroit. Cities down there are Trenton, Riverview, Southgate, Lincoln Park, Taylor, and Brownstown. Most of these cities have smaller homes and the area I would consider solid middle class neighborhoods. The majority of the homes in these cities are going to be under 1500 square feet. However most of the cities have areas that have bigger, newer homes too. So there is still a wide variety of homes downriver. The downriver area is in the southern part of Wayne County "downriver" of Detroit.
Later in life I moved to the western side of Wayne County. Livonia is the city I lived in for 22 years. It too was a very nice city. The way I would describe Western Wayne County is that the closer to the City of Detroit the homes will be older and smaller. That is basically the way Metro Detroit grew. When moving to Metro Detroit take a look at a map. You will see the City of Detroit. Generally speaking if you look at the first inner ring of cities around Detroit you will find that they have higher crime rates and average or below average school systems. Of course there are some exceptions to this generalization because Dearborn, and the Grosse Pointes have lower crime and better schools.
However Redford, Ecorse, River Rouge, Hazel Park, Oak Park, East Pointe, and Warren will have lower crime rates, and better schools than the city of Detroit. However another generalization I will make is the further you get away from the City of Detroit the lower the crime rate. Of course there are a few exceptions to this too. The City of Inkster and the City of Pontiac have higher crime rates. My goal as a Realtor is to help you find a Metro Detroit home that is safe and will appreciate over time. I want your family to be able to leave your home with out the fear of being raped, mugged, or robbed.
