If you do not know "Northville" is actually two communities. The City of Northville and Northville Township. Let's first talk about homes in the city. Northville has a central old downtown. There are many Victorian homes and homes that were built in the 1800's and early 1900's. Many of these homes have been restored. Home prices in the downtown area can go for over $200 a square foot which is higher than other homes in the area. Downtown Northville is very desirable to home buyers because they can walk to the downtown area for dinner or for coffee. It is a lively downtown. Like all most communities even the downtown area has homes of all different ages. Old homes have been torn down and new ones put up. Out of vacant lots spring bigger homes with the latest amenities.
To the north of the city Main street turns into a dirt road. Back in this area you will find some luxury estates nestled in amongst 1960's & 1970's built ranch's, colonials, and split levels. The least expensive real estate in Northville is off 5 Mile Road. There are some gravel streets over there that have some small ranches and bungalows on them. Because the neighborhood is not consistent the prices are a little cheaper there.
Most of the homes in the township are in subdivisions. Many have parks and green areas. Most of the building in Northville started after the 1960's. The biggest building boom was in the 1990's. In the 1960's you will find the standard smaller colonial with 8 foot ceilings, and a 2 car attached garage that range from 1700 to 2500 square feet. There were split levels built during that period. You will find more tri-levels and quads. I cannot remember if I have ever seen a bi-level home in Northville.
After about 1985 homes started becoming bigger. Master bedroom suites with larger bath rooms and walk in closets became the norm. Open layouts and soaring ceilings were another new feature. Like most communities in metro Detroit the newer homes are further to the west in the community. Because Northville was such a desirable place to live you will see luxury estate homes on larger lots and on acreage scattered throughout the township.
One of top Northville subdivisions is Stonewater. It is a large neighborhood that once was a quarry. They carved out a beautiful subdivision around six small lakes where the homes are costing over $500,000 in 2014. That is just one of the many prestigious subs. There is one that sits on a golf course at Six Mile and Sheldon called Northville Hills.
