So many job transferee's look for good schools and safe communities. Wayne County does have some "rough" cities, but it also has many great cities where the crime statistics are very low. Some of the "rough" cities or cities to avoid are:
When I say "rough" I mean the crime rates are higher, and the school systems are not the best in the area. When I have Michigan relocation clients I want them to find safe areas to raise their family. I want their children to go to the best schools possible. I do not ever to wake up and learn that my client or their kids got murdered, robbed because of the city they live in. I want my clients to live in cities where the response time for emergency services like ambulances and police is good. So enough of that. I want to provide you with the information to find a home in a community that fits you and your family. I have sold homes to clients in the City of Detroit. The clients are very happy. Every person has their own preferences.
I myself do not work in the "rough" cities anymore. If I feel the need to carry a gun to sell real estate then I am not going to show houses there. If I have to worry about my car, my client's or my safety I am not inclined to go there.
I urge clients to do their research on crime statistics, cost of home owner's and car insurance, and of course school systems. Usually low crime and good schools have a direct correlation on the prices of homes and whether the community home prices will hopefully rise in the future. Poor schools, high crime means low home prices. You can find all of that information on the internet very easily just by searching "school ratings" or "crime in". Or you can call a local insurance agent. The higher the home owner insurance rates usually means the higher the crime rate in southeastern Michigan. The two are tied together.

Probably one of the great things about Wayne County Michigan is the abundance of freeways to get to any where in the Metro Detroit area. I-75, I-94, Southfield expressway, & I-275 all cut through the county. Usually you are within a 5-10 minute ride of getting on an expressway. That makes living here a real plus.
Our major Metro Detroit Airport is just south of I-94 (the southern part of the county). You can make it to the airport in under 30 minutes from almost anywhere in the county. If you have a Wayne County relocation you will find that getting to the major airport in the area is a breeze. Getting from one part of metro Detroit is relatively easy using the freeways. Real Estate & Homes
When talking about all the great cities in Wayne County I said that many of the cities are bungalow, bedroom, or starter communities. What I mean by that is that most of the homes are going to be in the 900 - 1500 square foot range. Many are going to be bungalows, ranches, or split level homes. Of course many of the communities will have large homes. The homes have been added onto.*****Throughout these pages I will try to give you averages of what the home sizes are. However I cannot think of one city that does not have a section or two that will have some large homes. It may be a street of newer built homes. Or it may be an area that old homes have been added onto. So you will be able to find large homes in the 2000+ square foot in Allen Park, Westland, and Taylor. (To name just a few of the Wayne County cities)
When relocating to Wayne County you will learn that metro Detroit grew more to the north and west. Wayne County is to the south and west. So most of the growth was to the west and some to the south. You will find the newer homes, the larger homes in those areas. Canton, Van Buren Township, Plymouth, and Northville will have the larger newer colonials that range from 2500 to over 4000 square feet.
Here are some of the cities in Wayne County that have active downtowns. These are areas that the locals come down to shop, have coffee or eat in the local restaurants, or have a drink in the local bars. Many of these downtowns have great festivals and activities to draw in people from all around south eastern Michigan. Plymouth has the Ice Festival, Wyandotte and Allen Park have big craft shows, and Northville has the Victorian Festival.
Another great part of the county is the abundance of city, county, and Metro Parks. There are thousands of acres of parkland that are great for picnicking, hiking, fishing, and bike riding. We have Hines Parkway system of parks, Metro Park down in Huron Township, Belle Isle in Detroit, and Maybury State Park to name just a few of them. So pack up the kids and enjoy the outdoors and nature no matter what the season. Yes there are sledding hills and ice skating rinks. Remember Detroit is called Hockeytown!
